A Graph Needed Stable References Beyond Display Names

BOTIE

Sharing descriptions between systems made identity a practical problem for early web metadata. W3C’s 1999 RDF recommendation addressed exchangeable resource descriptions, where common references matter more than a displayed name. Our property-graph import has a related problem at a smaller scale: local pump IDs need enough scope to refer to the intended entity. The mechanisms differ, but neither model can safely equate entities from matching display text alone.

A source-qualified equipment code makes the scope visible. It prevents an import from treating identical local names as global identifiers, while allowing a later display-name change on the same entity.
